ABOUT MIA WANG
Hi! I’m Mia Wang. I am a first-generation student at the University of Michigan studying Honors Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience, and I am on a pre-law path focused on ethics and advocacy. I'm particularly interested in the intersection of neuroscience, identity, and the legal system. I am especially interested in what happens when the brain becomes visible in everyday life, like when speech is difficult, memory changes, or stress reshapes who we are in a moment.
This project was inspired by a lived experience. I grew up navigating a speech impediment while learning English, and I learned that “voice” is not only something you have, but something you build. Later, through legal work and internships, I spent time with clients affected by cognitive decline and neurodegenerative disease. I saw how people can be dismissed when communication is confusing to them, and I became interested in how law defines autonomy, competency, and dignity when the brain changes.
My writing style is complex but accessible. I combine personal narrative with research, and my goal is to create work that is honest and specific, while also connecting to larger cultural and scholarly conversations. I hope this website and project invites you to reflect on your own moments of noticing the brain, and to think about how we can build systems that protect rights without erasing our identity.
